The tccutil app lets you reset permissions for all sorts of things macOS asks you about, such as which apps can access Contacts, but Accessibility appears to be the most fragile part. Some apps will prompt you after restart as they recognize they’re missing permissions.

When the macOS session is running and accepts your input, return to the Privacy tab and check any boxes needed to enable software that requires it. The Django admin site uses permissions as follows: Access to view objects is limited to users with the view or change permission for that type of object.

Now immediately restart your Mac manually-don’t force restart it-from  > Restart.

You shouldn’t see any feedback the command will just complete.

Copy the following and press Return: sudo tccutil reset Accessibility.

Open the Terminal app, found in Applications > Utilities.

Some additional information after the original post.Here’s how to reset the privacy database: staff: Read only (Does not exist on test.user (me): Read & Write (Does not exist on test.Doesn't load properly – shows a spinning wait cursor!) everyone: No Access (Read only on test).

Depending on what type of system this is and what is available, put the drive into another system and pull the user data off then do the wipe and reinstall.

staff: Read only (staff does not exist here on test) That said, unless you are imaging the system, the OS can be reinstalled without removing the user data, which will also fix permissions on OS related folders.

Noteworthy: in some folders I see peculiar users called: .1 .2, .3, and Fetching… (a spinning wait cursor and contents that don't load) – these have 'Custom' permissions! Permissions Reset uses the same permissions resetting engine. My other Mac does instead of system: Read & Write and admin: Read & Write, have user (me): Read & Write and staff: Read only.įollowing are settings on my actively in-use accounts on my Macs. Permissions Reset can reset the owner, group, access permissions, Access Control Lists (ACLS), Extended Attributes (including Quarantine) to default settings, simply by dragging an app, folder or file into Permissions Reset, selecting what you'd like reset, then clicking on 'Reset'. Since they are shared by all users on the computer it's possible that they aren't the default Apple permissions.

WARNING: I can't guarantee that these are correct for an entirely fresh system, this is just what I happen to see on a new user on a non-factory restored Mac – please do not attempt to replicate: On one of my Macs, I created a new administrator user (named test) to see what the default permissions are for common Home folders.

SIP is activated, and as mentioned I am running the latest MacOS version as of February, 2023 – therefore many old Ask Different answers may not apply. Should I, and if so, how can I restore or apply Apple default user permissions, without having to erase my systems and recreate them from scratch? (Assuming that this is a good idea?) NB: I did recently have File Sharing problems in Ventura 13 which was previously mentioned in this question, but was a SMB bug now resolved with Ventura 13.3 ( source). Rationale: I'm concerned for security & functional reasons even though I am currently unaware of direct issues with these Macs due to my permissions. I'm not sure why that is, but it may be that I changed things due to ignorance far back in the past, or migrations, etc, may have altered things. This script will iterate through a users Cpanel.

I recently discovered the user permissions on these Macs probably are wrong (i.e they are not the default permissions). Use this script to reset the permissions and ownership of files and folders on a Cpanel user account. All of these Macs are running on relatively new computers but the systems have been passed on via Migration Assistant/Time Machine backups since the beginning of the ~2010s (OSX Snow Leopard & Lion).
